From fitting to kitting, keep your groomsmen in line and looking sharp

One of the better seasons for weddings is just around the corner, if not already descending upon us. Many brides have extensive lists of things swirling around in their heads, and one way we can help is by not adding to that list. Listen to her style and palette concerns. Take notes. Then handle your business.

Schedule an initial fitting with your groomsmen. Plan ahead so busy schedules can intersect with less drama. There is an important balance of dapper, dashing, debonair, and dressed to the nines that will support but not overshadow the bride.  Whether it’s a casual wedding, cocktail party, formal event, or a linen wedding on a Thai beach, the best wedding suits have specific criteria to meet.

While hilarious, wearing bright orange or a blue ruffled tuxedo to an informal event might not be received with the right cheek. What is your opinion? Do more wedding guests adhere to the dress code or fewer? I think a formal ballroom reception is the most elegant and classy wedding event someone could include. Not everyone shares the same perceptions of beauty, and none are wrong.

Isn’t that perfectly fitting for such a personal life event as matrimony? Beauty remains in the eye of the beholder. On that day, the two of you create a new entity that outshines you both. Look your sharpest, as close to an international man of mystery as possible. Choose a wedding suit that will give you a reason to wear it.

A properly fit suit projects success, confidence, conveys authority, and can display attention to detail or sloppiness. Design versatility into your suit. You can easily return to your tailor to fit another fabric and extend your wardrobe.

Whiskey decanters, cigar kits, and tie bars with engraved statements get a little boring, and trinkets are generally not keepsake items for men, in my experience. I recommend creating a memorable event. One that needs no piece of memorabilia to trigger a daydream. One that causes flashbacks that include laughing out loud at an awkward time, years from now.

I do not know your group of groomsmen and close friends. Would a track day be fun for some of them? You can book multiple cars with instructors and hit a professional track to reach for lap times. I personally like trap shooting or sporting clays. This can be an all-day event with multiple rounds pitting your accuracy against each other, but not from a golf cart.

Personalised BBQ cutlery and utensils would be a functional gift that brings tasty snacks back to you. That’s a double-sided gift. You cannot hold poker nights at your house, but you can buy a simple poker table for your friend to host more often.

Cufflinks? A beer mug? Be original, have a local blacksmith forge a set of bush-knives for your wedding party, with burned, monogrammed leather sheaths. A quality blade will last a lifetime, as I hope your marriage does.
