    Who is Gordon Chang

Gordon Guthrie Chang is an author, a columnist, and an attorney who lives in Los Angeles. “The Coming Collapse of China” was the title of his book, which predicted the end of the Chinese empire by 2011, but he later revised the date to 2012.

For nearly twenty years, he has worked in international law firms in Mainland China and Hong Kong, providing briefings as well as testimony to US government agencies about various topics.

Early Life – Gordon Chang Age

In 1951, Gordon G. Chang was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, United States. According to Gordon Chang’s age on this date of birth, he was born on July 5, 1951.

    Gordon Chang Father

The names of Gordon Chang’s father and mother were not able to be consolidated from the information I was able to find.

Born to parents from diverse cultural backgrounds in New Jersey, Gordon Guthrie Chang grew up in an environment of cultural diversity. The father of the man he represents is of Scottish descent from the United States, while the mother is also of Scottish descent from Rugao, Jiangsu in China.

    Gordon Chang Education

I think the best way to rephrase this sentence is to make it as simple as possible. After completing his secondary education, Chang graduated in 1969 from Columbia High School, a public high school in Maplewood, New Jersey, where he served as class president his senior year.

It was in 1976 that Chang graduated from Cornell Law School with a Juris Doctorate.

A year later, he went on to study at Cornell University, enrolled in the Cornell Daily Sun as a writer and joined the Quill and Dagger Society, where he contributed columns to the paper and took part in numerous educational activities.

Personal Life – Gordon Chang Wife

As far as the details of his personal life are concerned, no information is available. Following the data available, Gordon G. Chang is a married man. Lydia Tam is the name of Gordon Chang’s wife. The existence of any children of theirs is unknown at this time.

    Gordon Chang Career

He has been working in mainland China and Hong Kong for almost two decades, most recently in Shanghai as Counsel to the American law firm Paul Weiss, and earlier in the past as a Partner in Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong. His past service to Cornell University as a trustee has been two times.

Gordon Chang Other and related activities

During his extensive career in international affairs, Gordon Chang has given briefings at all levels of the US government, including the National Intelligence Council, the Central Intelligence Agency, the US State Department, and the US Defense Department.

In the past, Chang has appeared on some major news stations and shows, including CNN, Fox News, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, among others.

Besides being a former contributor to The Daily Beast, he has also written articles on China and North Korea for some well-known publications over the years.

He has also been invited to speak at some of the top universities in the country, including Columbia, Cornell, and Princeton University. Currently, Chang holds a position on the advisory board of the Global Taiwan Institute and is a contributing editor for 19FortyFive, an online international affairs website.

    Chinese Influence

Chinese students in U.S. universities have been mistakenly portrayed as the long arms of Chinese totalitarianism, and rumours have circulated that Chinese students, professors, and scientists have become nontraditional sources of intelligence for China.

According to Chang, a Chinese student at the University of Cornell stated in the Cornell Daily Sun that Chinese students engaged in suspicious behaviour in the colleges, such as probing faculties, engaging in abusive conduct and harassment towards other students, and putting pressure on universities to suspend classes.

Chang further asserted that China has a long-term goal of overthrowing the Westphalian order, rather than competing with the United States within it in the short term.

    U.S.-China “cold tech war”

According to Chang’s book, The Great U.S.-China Tech War (2020), the United States and China currently engage in a cold tech war in which the victor stands to dominate the twenty-first century by taking over the world’s technology.

According to Chang, the U.S. needs to mobilize and regain its former control over cutting-edge technology that was once possessed by it.

China was not considered a tech competitor a decade ago, but its leaders have transformed it into a tech superpower that surpasses the United States in many key areas as a result.

    Collapse of China

As the author of The Coming Collapse of China, Chang has consistently maintained that the Chinese government is destined to crumble soon.

In a separate interview, Chang stated that China achieved its trade surplus with the U.S. of 149.2 per cent by lying, cheating, and stealing to achieve it.

Considering internal factors such as slowing population growth and retail sales, he asserts that China is in the midst of a new dot-com bubble because its rapid growth is unsustainable.

He also warned that if China sold its Treasury securities, it would ultimately harm its economy, which relies heavily on exports to the United States to sustain itself. There is a risk that a sell-off would lead to a decrease in U.S. purchases from China, which would damage the Chinese economy in the long run.

    Gordon Chang Net Worth:

As part of the elite circle of leading legal experts, Gordon G. Chang is listed among the richest attorneys globally. In 2024, his wealth is valued at approximately $5 million.

    Notable Publications and Views

The Coming Collapse of China was a book written by Chang in which he predicted China’s imminent collapse, although the timeline in which he predicted it never materialized.

In his criticism of the Chinese government, he has often cautioned against the growing influence of the government and its practices in the region.

Furthermore, he outlined the growing competition between the United States and China in the technology sector in his book The Great U.S.–China Tech War, emphasizing that the United States needs to regain the technological dominance it once held.

    Personal Life and Public Presence

Despite his prominent career, Chang has been able to keep his personal life relatively private over the years. As far as his personal life is concerned, he is married to Lydia Tam, and no other information is currently available about his life.
