5 Top Attractions in Phuket, Thailand

Phuket is known as the jewel of southern Thailand and for good reason, as this tropical paradise island is definitely the most popular tourist destination in the Land of Smiles. If you are planning a holiday in Phuket in 2026, this short article will be very useful, as we highlight 5 of the top tourist attractions in Phuket.

    1. Big Buddha – Every single Thai person knows where the Big Buddha resides, and you couldn’t visit Phuket without paying this unique Buddhist monument a visit. At a height of 148 feet, this is without doubt Phuket’s most iconic attraction; a glowing white statue that sits atop Nakkerd Hill, which is in Karon. Make sure that you get some great photos with the Big Buddha in the background, and early morning visits are recommended, when it is still cool. After a walk around this area, you can enjoy a delicious Sunday brunch in Phuket at one of the top eateries on the island.
    2. Wat Chalong – This is Phuket’s largest and most revered Buddhist temple, with a stunning gold and white pagoda, which sits within stunning Thai architecture. A Buddhist temple means you should dress conservatively, females should have covered shoulders, and skirts should be below the knee. There are intricate carvings that depict specific periods of Buddha’s life; the temple is located in the Chalong district and is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. All taxi drivers know where this temple is located, and it is a peaceful place to spend an afternoon.
    3. Karon Beach – One of the longest and most beautiful beaches in sunny Phuket, and a firm favourite with foreign families, due to the many amenities that are available along this stretch of golden beach. The southern end of the beach is the best place for snorkelling, especially in the early mornings, when the sea is usually calm. Take great care when the sea is rough, as rip tides can take swimmers out to sea; if you are unsure as to whether you should swim in the sea, ask one of the lifeguards who are stationed in many locations. Here are a few dos and don’ts for single female travellers.
    4. Thai Hua Museum – If you are into history, you simply must visit this amazing museum, which is housed in a beautiful Portuguese-style mansion. The museum depicts Chinese history in the region, which was very extensive; admire an amazing seashell collection, plus some old tin mining tools that were used in the 19th century. Superb Chinese artwork and beautiful calligraphy are on display, and this museum is located in Tambon Talat Neua and is open from 9 am to 5 pm.
    5. Phuket Art Village – A truly delightful place for artists of all kinds; many local artists display their work, and you can buy pieces of art to take home as unique souvenirs. Late afternoons and early evenings are the best times to visit, and you can enjoy fine cuisine at any of the local restaurants.

We hope that you enjoy your stay in this idyllic tropical island, and one thing is for sure, you will return to Phuket and the Land of Smiles.
